UTCs and Studio Schools
If you have a child moving into Year 9 or 10 in the next academic year, you can apply for a place at one of the University Technical Colleges (UTCs) or Studio Schools in the region.
UTCs and Studio Schools have been set up across the country to offer an alternative route to the traditional GCSE and A level curriculum for 13 to 19 year olds. They aim to give students a wide range of skills and prepare them for the working world. Their programmes combine technical, practical, academic and project-based learning and qualifications.
If you are interested in applying to a UTC or a Studio School, find out more information about individual schools and how to apply on their websites.
University Technical Colleges (UTCs)
UTCs are set up by universities and businesses and specialise in 1 or 2 technical subjects. At GCSE, they offer a similar curriculum to a typical secondary school alongside their specialist subject.

Studio Schools
Involvement from employers is built into the curriculum at studio schools. Students can benefit from coaching and work experience alongside a curriculum similar to that of a typical secondary school.
