Stockton through to second round of Future High Streets Fund

As part of Stockton-on-Tees Borough Council's plans to step in and help town centres across the Borough, it submitted expressions of interest in the Government's Future High Streets Fund.

Today (5 July) it has been announced that the town's bid for a share of £675million is through to the next stage.

Stockton-on-Tees Borough Council's Cabinet Member for Regeneration and Housing, Councillor Nigel Cooke, said:  "We are thrilled to hear that our bid has been given the green light to proceed to the next stage of the selection process.

"However, there is still a way to go and over the coming months we will work hard to develop our bid further.

"The Council put bids in for both Yarm and Stockton and are waiting for details and pressing government to support both applications.

"Before the Future High Streets Fund was launched, we announced our own plans to support the transformation of town centres across the Borough and approved up to £30million of borrowing for this.

"We know that if our town centres are going to survive we need to make sure they change and adapt.  Our long-term plan to make this happen is exciting and ambitious, and we are really pleased that our approach is being endorsed nationally."
