Links between schools and sports clubs help create opportunities for young people to take part in sport inside and outside of school.
Formal links between sports clubs and schools encourage children to continue playing sport after school and can help create a pathway toward competitive and elite sport.

Advice for clubs
Links between sports clubs and schools can:
- increase participation in your club
- provide opportunities to identify talent
- potentially allow your club access to school facilities
- raise your profile with the sport and community
- create financial opportunities
What to do if you are a club
- Propose the idea to the club committee and think about key questions such as:
- is the club committee interested in setting up a school-club link?
- why would a school-club link be beneficial?
- which schools does you want to target?
- is the club already in contact with these schools?
- who from the club will lead the link?
- what are you able to offer the school?
- Contact your target schools.
- Arrange a time to meet up with the school and plan for your link.
- Complete the school-club link agreement form (Word doc) [42KB] .
- Monitor the number of young people joining your club from different schools.
- Keep a register of the number of young people attending club sessions.

- Is the PE department interested in setting up a school-club link?
- Why do you want to develop a link?
- Which clubs do you wish to target?
- Who from the school will lead on the link?
- What are you able to offer the club (such as facilities)?
- Establish whether your targeted club provides a suitable environment.
- Contact the club.
- Arrange a time to meet up with the club and plan you link.
