Petitions scheme
If you are concerned about something the Council is responsible for, or that the Council can influence, you can submit a petition to the Council. Petitions allow you to raise concerns that are important to you and have a direct influence on the political process.
Guidelines for submitting a petition
We consider petitions with a minimum of 10 signatures that are about an issue that the Council has a responsibility for. If a petition has 1000 signatures or more, it will be considered for referral to a full Council meeting for a full and proper debate.
Petitions can be submitted in a paper copy format. We will send an acknowledgement of receipt of the petition within 10 working days of receipt. We will also advise how long we think we will need to consider the issue.
A petition should contain a clear statement of the persons concerns and what the person wants the authority to do; together with the name, address and signature of any person supporting the petition.
Petitions will be accepted from members of the public, including under 18s, who either live, work or study in the Borough of Stockton-on-Tees.
