New housing development on the way as Council continues to progress town centre goals

The Council is in collaboration with Keepmoat on a £18.7million redevelopment to build two, three and four-bedroom houses and two-bedroom bungalows on the former Victoria Estate.

Open, green spaces to accommodate pedestrians and cyclists will be a feature of the site as well as walkways to nearby shops, bars, restaurants and venues in Stockton.

Planning permission was granted in July 2019 and 20 per cent of the new homes will be provided for affordable rent.

Councillor Nigel Cooke, Stockton-on-Tees Borough Council's Cabinet Member for Regeneration and Housing, said: "It is fantastic to see the heavy machinery now on site and work really picking up pace on this site.

"This new development will offer people the chance to buy or rent high quality homes that are on the doorstep of Stockton town centre.

"We know we have to rejuvenate our town centres and high streets in different ways and encouraging people to live in or nearby them is key to what we're trying to achieve."

Ian Prescott, Land and Partnerships Director at Keepmoat Homes North East, added: "Keepmoat has a fantastic partnership with the Council which has resulted in the delivery of almost 1,000 new homes in the Borough over the last 15 years.

"We are delighted to now be involved in the revitalisation of the town centre and believe that our new homes meet the demands of buyers who are looking for well located, competitively priced, high quality houses."

Show homes are expected to be open to public viewing from spring this year and it is hoped the first residents will move in to properties in the summer.
