Report a lost or stray dog
Tell us if you find a stray dog and we can help return them to their own or find them a new home.
Report a stray dog
You are legally required to let us know if you find a stray dog.
If you contact us about a stray dog, we will ask you to provide:
- your name and contact details
- a description of the dog (breed, colour, size and age)
- when you found the dog
- where you found the dog
How you report a stray dog depends on whether you need help during our business hours.
How to report a dog during business hours (9am to 5pm, Monday to Friday)
Contact us to 01642 526575.
We will either come to collect the dog or you can bring them to our holding kennels. We will let you know what to do when you call.
How to report a dog outside of business hours (after 5pm on weekdays or anytime during the weekend)
Contact us on 01642 618946.
We cannot collect the dog out of working hours, but you can bring them to our holding kennel. We will advise you what to do when you call.
If it safe for you to do so, we may ask you to look after the dog until the next working day when we can come to collect them from you.
Report your lost dog
Tell us if you have lost your dog, so that we can return them to you if they come into our care.
Claiming back a dog reported as stray
You need to provide proof of your name and address before we can release a dog to you.
You should try to collect your dog within 24 hours of them being taken into our care. After that, you may have to pay a fee for the dog's care before we can release them to you.
We keep dogs for 7 days before we start the process of finding them a new home.
Sometimes people who find dogs do not report them to us, so make sure to check local social media groups and contact local animal shelters too.
