Light issues
A large amount of light can sometimes be considered damaging to health or a nuisance.
We have a duty to investigate all complaints about potential light pollution.
We can only help with light problems if they have caused you to change the way you live in some way, or they are causing problems for your health.
Examples of artificial light that can cause issues if used incorrectly include:
- security lights (either domestic or commercial)
- sports facilities lighting such as floodlit football pitches
- decorative lighting of buildings or landscapes
- laser shows and light art
If we consider the level of light to be a nuisance, we can use powers under the Environmental Protection Act 1990 and the Lighting in the Clean Neighbourhoods and Environment Act 2005
