It's sound - Government planning inspector endorses Local Plan ahead of consideration by councillors

Matthew Birkinshaw BA (Hons) MSc MRTPI says that, subject to some modifications he has recommended, the plan is "sound, legally compliant and capable of adoption".

The plan sets out a vision for the future development of the Borough in relation to housing, the economy, transport, community facilities and infrastructure up to 2032.

It has been prepared following extensive public consultation and an 'Examination in Public' led by Mr Birkinshaw.

Councillor Bob Cook, Leader of Stockton-on-Tees Borough Council, said: "A huge amount of work has gone into producing our Local Plan so we're really pleased that the Planning Inspector has reached a positive conclusion.

"The Local Plan is a vitally important document and if adopted, it'll put us in a stronger position to control future development, reject unwanted developments and shape the future of the Borough.

"We are a growing Borough and it is vital we plan for this growth to ensure it continues to be a great place to live, work and do business."

At its meeting on Thursday (January 24), the Council's Cabinet will be asked to recommend to Full Council that the Local Plan is adopted.

And if that is agreed by Cabinet, the document will then be considered for formal adoption at the Full Council meeting on Wednesday, January 30.
