Care leavers local offer - your education and training

If you are cared for (sometimes called being 'in care') then we have a dedicated team who will start to work with you from school year 10 and continue to offer you career advice, guidance and support beyond school year 13.

We can also help with:

• transport costs
• developing your CV
• advice and support with interviews 
• celebrating achievements 

Support with college

If you choose to go on to further education, you might be eligible for a bursary (or grant) from the Government. Each Further Education college administers this money differently, so this offer depends on the college that you choose and how the college has decided to manage the money, we don't have control over that. We'll talk to the college of your choice and check with them about what the specific offer will be for you.

The bursary will be considered based on:

• your commitment to the course
• having good attendance
• keeping up with the work

Some colleges may pay for your bus pass or some of your equipment, or provide other services in the college, so this can mean that individual students don't get cash in their hand. Your Personal Adviser can support you to understand how the college you choose manages this money and help you to apply for what you are entitled to.

Support with university

Going to university is a wonderful opportunity and a fantastic way to develop your knowledge, skills, and experience. If you choose to go on to university, we will help you find the right course and the right University that matches your talents and interests.

Being organised financially is important while at university and we can support you with this.

If you are an eligible, relevant or former relevant young person this includes financial support in the following areas:

• 52 weeks of the year accommodation
• £2000 bursary over the period of your course
• £125 book allowance per year

Many universities provide extra funding for care experienced young people. Each university will have a dedicated member of staff who can advise on what they can offer, and your Personal Adviser can find out more details about this from the university of your choice.

If you are a qualifying young person at university or college doing a full-time course away from home, then we will help you with accommodation during the vacation periods if that's what you need. You may be entitled to other help depending on your situation.
