Description
Our Adults and Health Service were seeking the views of care home residents, their relatives and the general public about adult care home provision in Stockton-on-Tees. We are doing this to understand what people feel are the most important considerations when choosing a care home.
The results will help to shape care home provision in the future, particularly in relation to the number of beds available and to ensure a quality service.
Results and outcomes
We asked one main question, what is most important to you when choosing a care home?
The top 3 answers were quality of care, caring and friendly staff and location of the home.
We factored these views into the new framework which led us to end the old arrangements for funding placements based on an environmental band and a residential and dementia split to introducing a new dependency approach which recognised the care and support needs of the residents and funded homes accordingly.
The new framework splits homes geographically into north and south which allows us to support the market and ensure there is provision across the Borough.
