Business permits

There are 2 types of business permit available, a Brunswick Street zone permit and a market traders permit.

Businesses within an RPZ can buy business parking permits for vehicles that are needed for frequent business operations. The permit is only valid when the vehicle is being used to carry out works and is intended to facilitate the essential operations of a business, such as deliveries and client visits, not to provide cheaper parking for employees.

Applicants need to provide the vehicle details and proof that it is used for business purposes, such as a letter from the company Secretary, Director or another authorised person on business headed paper.

Brunswick Street zone permit

Brunswick Street permits are £50 for 1 year.

You can return your permit within the year and a 50% refund will be available if returned during the first 6 months. Refunds are not available where the Council has suspended or withdrawn permits.

This permit allows you to park on the following streets:

  • Albion Street
  • Brunswick Street
  • Lodge Street
  • Skinner Street
  • William Street

You can apply for a permit if your business premises are next to these streets.

Your permit will allow you to park along the carriageway of these streets on the single yellow line without risk of enforcement action.

Evidence

You must supply the following evidence:

  • Vehicle Registration Document (DVLA V5)
  • current Business Rates Statement
  • utility bill dated within the last 3 months
  • a letter from the company secretary or director stating that the vehicle on the V5 is used in conjunction with the above conditions

Permit management is at the discretion of Stockton-on-Tees Borough Council.

The Council may suspend or withdraw permits for vehicles who don't follow these rules and conditions. Permit withdrawals can be on an individual basis or as a blanket withdrawal.

Market traders permit

Market traders permits for on-street parking are £10 for 1 year.

Stallholders can apply for a permit who require a vehicle to deliver or to collect goods in connection with the High Street market.

You need to be listed on the record of stallholders held by the Council to be eligible for a permit.

Vehicles displaying a valid permit are entitled to park within certain lengths of Norton Road and Bishop Street.

These lengths are signed, and the carriageway surfaces are marked. They are:

  • Norton Road, on its east side from King Street northwards to Garbutt Street but not across or in the vicinity of side roads and a bus stop, being an effective length of 123 metres
  • Bishop Street, on its south side from Thistle Green to its termination, but not opposite or in the vicinity of side roads being of an effective length of 162 metres

Only vehicles with a valid permit can park in the zone between 7am and 6pm on Wednesday and Saturday market days.
