A "fascinating" time capsule will now be buried at IB Leisure for the next 100 years.

The project,  has seen a number of items collected by pupils from nearby Myton Park Primary School and All Saints Secondary School.

This includes makeup trends in 2017, a discontinued £5 note and even a lock of hair.

There are also messages from school pupils on how they envisage life to be like in 100 years.

The capsule was buried at the leisure centre on Thursday (November 17) by the Mayor of Stockton-on-Tees, Councillor Ross Patterson, and school pupils George Mellis and Abigail Purvis.

IB Leisure, which was officially opened in 2021 by Barroness Tanni Grey-Thompson, welcomed nearly a quarter of a million visitors through the doors in its first year alone.

The venue features a state-of-the-art gym, two swimming pools, three purpose-built fitness class studios and a library.

And the time capsule will now be buried for the next century at the site.

Councillor Steve Nelson, Stockton-on-Tees Borough Council's Cabinet Member for Health, Leisure and Culture, said: "The burying of the time capsule was unfortunately delayed due to the coronavirus pandemic and it was a pleasure to be in attendance to mark the burial with an event.

"It's fascinating to see the items which will be buried and it just goes to show how much things have changed in five years, so it'll be especially interesting for generations to come when the capsule is eventually opened.

"IB Leisure continues to be a big hit with residents in Ingleby Barwick and further afield and it's easy to see why with the state-of-the-art facilities on offer.

"The venue continues to go from strength to strength and the time capsule is a welcome and interesting addition."
