Mayor pays tribute to Her Majesty The Queen

Following the news that Her Majesty The Queen has passed away, the Mayor of Stockton-on-Tees, Councillor Ross Patterson has joined those paying tribute.

The Mayor said: "It is with great sorrow that I extend my deepest sympathies to the Royal Family at this sad time.

"She devoted her life to public service and was an ever-present in the lives of so many, for so long.

"The sadness we feel, and the sense of loss being felt across the globe, are testament to the dignity and dedication with which she served, and the high esteem in which she was held.

"As a mark of respect, flags at Stockton's Municipal Buildings and Town Hall are flying at half-mast during this period of national mourning.

"And from tonight, and every night up to and including the evening of the state funeral, the lighting in Stockton town centre, Stockton riverside and Newport Bridge will be set to purple. This is in line with national guidance.

"We will also be sending a message of condolence to His Majesty and the wider Royal Family on behalf of the people of the Borough."

The Council is now following an agreed national plan which sets out what will happen in relation to things like:

• The National, County and Stockton-on-Tees Borough Proclamation events
• The state funeral
• Service of Remembrance at Stockton Parish Church
• Two minutes' silence
• Designated areas for laying of flowers
• Books of Condolence arrangements
• Flag flying details
• Feature lighting

The details of these local arrangements will be published on the Council's website and social media channels as soon as possible.
