Calling all carers: Market offering support heads to Stockton

Information stalls, advice and self-care therapies are just some of the things on offer at a market for carers taking place in Stockton on Saturday 11 June. 

The Carers' Market on Stockton High Street will give people the chance to meet other like-minded carers, browse the information stalls and speak to representatives from more than 25 local organisations which support informal carers across Stockton-on-Tees Borough.

These include Eastern Ravens Trust who support the Borough's young carers, Cleveland Police, Citizens Advice, Impact on Teesside, Stockton-on-Tees' Home Improvement Agency and also condition specific support from organisations such as Teesside Dementia Link and Diabetes UK.

Visitors will be able to enjoy a bit of self-care with some free holistic therapies. There will also be refreshments available in the marquee, which will be open from 10am to 3pm.

The market is being held during national Carers' Week (6-11 June), an annual campaign which aims to shine a light on informal caring.

Councillor Ann McCoy, Stockton-on-Tees Borough Council's Cabinet Member for Adult Social Care, said: "We are holding this market during national Carers' Week because we want to help make caring more visible and ensure that is it fully valued and recognised by the whole community.

"There are almost 7 million carers in the UK - that's 1 in 10 people. But many people don't even realise that they are an informal carer. If you support a loved one, family, friend or neighbour, with essential aspects of their everyday life you may be able to access support, so come along to the market and see what's on offer."

The Carers Market is organised by Stockton-on-Tees Borough Council.
