An Employer's Guide to Direct Earnings Attachments (DEA) for the Collection of Housing Benefit Overpayments

9. What if my employee does not earn enough for me to make the deduction?

If the weekly or monthly earnings are below the threshold (see tables A and B, section 6.2) you cannot calculate a Direct Earnings Attachments (DEA) deduction.

You must tell the Council why a deduction cannot be made by using a Direct Earnings Attachment payments schedule (for further information see section 13.3).

You must continue to calculate whether a DEA deduction can be made, each pay period until either we tell you to stop or your employee leaves your employment.
