Apply to be an 'Independent Person'
A volunteer is being sought to help meet high standards of conduct among borough, town and parish councillors in Stockton-on-Tees.
Applications are now open for an Independent Person, a four year role in which a member of the public will be asked to give their view on any valid complaints raised against council members and advice following any investigation.
Those applying cannot be related to, or be a close friend of current or former councillors or officers at Stockton-On-Tees Borough Council or the parish and town councils, and cannot be a current member or employee of councils in the borough or have been so within the last five years.
A spokesperson for Stockton-on-Tees Borough Council said: "The role of Independent Person is really important in helping to maintain high standards among our members, supporting the work of our Standards Panel.
"We are looking for someone who is able to demonstrate a commitment to maintaining high standards in public service and shows an interest in local government."
The post is voluntary and unpaid, but the successful applicant will receive an annual allowance of £650.
