Leader's blog

Each week Councillor Bob Cook, Leader of Stockton-on-Tees Borough Council, writes a blog keeping you in touch with the very latest news.

Friday 8 November 2024

To start the week, I attended a pre-meeting for the Education, Employment and Skills Advisory Group. The group is a partnership of Darlington, Hartlepool, Middlesbrough, Redcar and Cleveland, and Stockton-on-Tees local authorities, working with the Local Enterprise Partnership, wider business community and other partners to make local decisions that support the growth of our economy.

I then joined a meeting to discuss the Cabinet agenda for next Thursday's meeting. Topics include the Procurement Plan and Higher Value Contracts, and an update on care and health winter planning.

On Tuesday, I had my regular catch-up with Mike Greene, Chief Executive, and Lisa Evans, Deputy Leader.

Midweek, I joined Cabinet Members and other senior members of the Council to run through a briefing for Cabinet.

Yesterday, I attended the Learner Celebration Event at Billingham Community Centre, hosted by Stockton Learning and Skills. The annual event celebrates the hard work and achievements of graduates of our adult learning service. If you're interested in learning something new, whether for work or pleasure, visit the Stockton Learning and Skills website where you can find their prospectus and view the courses on offer.

Today, I am attending the Tees Valley Integrated Care Partnership (ICP) Area Meeting, which I chair. A busy agenda includes the Winter Plan for 2024 to 2025, a presentation on Right Care Right Person, and an update on the Hospitals Trust Group.

This weekend, I'm looking forward to spending some quality time with my family. I will be paying my respects for Remembrance Sunday at Stockton Parish Church. You can find your nearest Remembrance Sunday service here. In football, Middlesbrough results have been up and down lately. Last weekend we lost against Coventry despite being strong favourites, and then mid-week we had an emphatic 4-1 win against QPR, bringing us within touching of the playoff spots. This weekend we play Luton Town and should be taking all three points at the Riverside.
