This is an exciting time to join our Children's Services team.
Our new Director of Children's Services, Majella McCarthy joined us in April and comes with over 20 years of experience. Majella is a former social worker who helped deliver an 'Outstanding' children's service offer and is here to help us on our improvement journey.
Majella has a clear vision to improve outcomes for children and families across the Borough and we are looking to strengthen our workforce to support us on this journey.

Therapeutic roles on offer
We will soon be launching a therapeutic children's home. This is a great career opportunity to work with young people with complex therapeutic, emotional wellbeing or mental health needs in a new way.
Staff will be trained with relevant skills and knowledge to support children and young people with complex needs.
The roles on offer are:
- therapeutic children's home - deputy manager
- therapeutic children's home - senior residential care officer
- therapeutic children's home - residential care officers x 7 posts
- therapeutic children's home - night care worker

Learning opportunities
We have a tailored training programme aligned with the Continuous Professional Framework, as well as multi-agency safeguarding training from our safeguarding partnership. Learning includes:
- all qualified social workers are entitled to five days of Continuous Professional Development (CPD) each year
- face to face events - a mix of taught sessions, workshops, conferences and briefings
- digital - including online learning and subscriptions
- a coaching approach - supporting the development of staff by bringing learning into the workplace
- sharing of lessons learned - operational experience, review recommendations and evidence of good practice
- shadowing and secondment opportunities
Assessed and Supported Year in Employment development programme
We are expanding our current Assessed and Supported Year in Employment (AYSE) offer, with a focus on high quality bespoke and group learning.
