Moving your business in or out of the area

Tell us that you are moving into the area and want to register for Business Rates

If you are a business moving into the Stockton-on-Tees area or you are the leaseholder of a business premises you will need to register for Business Rates. To do this email business.rates@stockton.gov.uk.

In your email you will need to include:

• your name and trading name along with any business partners or the limited company name and company registration number
• the address that you have moved into or are the leaseholder for
• the date that you occupied the property and any dates that the property has been empty
• if you have purchased the property advise us of the purchase date
• if you are leasing the property advise us of the name and address of your landlord
• if you would not like to receive your bills by email

If the property is eligible and you would like to apply for Small Business Rate Relief, you will need to confirm that you are the director of the company and that this will be the only property that you occupy, or that your additional properties each have a rateable value of less than £2,900 and the total rateable value of all properties is below £20,000.

Tell us that you are moving out, or to another property, and want to update your Business Rates account

If you need to let us know that your business has moved out, or to another property in the Stockton-on-Tees area log into your online account and advise us of the change by uploading the relevant documents and information.

Moving out of the area

If you are moving out of the property and have not occupied another property in Stockton-on-Tees you need to include:

• the date that you moved out of the property and the date that the property was emptied
• the date that your lease ends and the name and address of your landlord (if applicable)
• if you have sold the property, advise us of the date of sale and the owner details

Moving into another property in the area

If you are moving out of the property and have occupied another property in Stockton-on-Tees you need to include:

• the date that you moved out of the property and the date that the property was emptied
• the date that your lease ends and the name and address of your landlord (if applicable)
• if you have sold the property, advise us of the date of sale and the owner details
• the address that you have moved into or are the leaseholder for
• the date that you occupied the property and any dates that the new property has been empty
• if you have purchased the property, advise us of the purchase date
• if you are leasing the property, advise us of the name and address of your landlord

If the property is eligible and you would like to apply for Small Business Rate Relief please confirm that you are the director of the company and that this will be the only property that you occupy, or that you have additional properties each have a rateable value of less than £2,900 and the total rateable value of all properties is below £20,000.
