  • heating replacement and repairs
  • rewiring
  • roof replacement and repairs (including repointing, chimney repairs and guttering replacement)
  • window replacement and repairs

We may also be able to help with other repairs on a case-by-case basis.

Who can apply?

You can apply for a loan if:

  • you live in the Borough
  • you are aged 18 or over
  • you have lived in and owned the property for at least 12 months

How to apply

Contact the Housing Regeneration and Investment Team to start your application.

What to expect

We offer loans up to £10,000. We will organise for the work to be done and pay an approved contractor directly once the work is completed.

There are three different types of loan available.

Equity loan

If you cannot afford to make monthly repayments but you have equity in your home, we will calculate your loan as a percentage of the value of your home at the time that you take out the loan.  When you sell your home, you will repay the same percentage of the value of your home at the time of the sale.

For example, if you need £5,000 and your home is worth £100,000 at the time of taking out your loan, your loan will be calculated as 5% of the value of your home. If your home is valued at £125,000 when you sell it, you will repay 5% of £125,000 or £6,250.

Repayment loan

If you can afford to pay monthly repayments but you cannot get a loan from a commercial lender, your loan will have a fixed interest rate. You will pay back in instalments that you can manage.

Interest-free loan

If you do not have equity in your home and cannot make monthly repayments, we will offer an interest free loan which will be secured against your home. You will only pay back the loan when you sell your home.
