Mayor's Civic Awards guidance
Here you can find guidance on how to complete your Civic Award nomination.
Who can be nominated?
The Mayor's Civic Awards uses an 'open' nomination scheme. This means that anyone could nominate a resident, group, organisation or business within the Borough for an award if the nominee meets the criteria for that award.
To be accepted for nomination the person, group or organisation must meet one of the following criteria:
- achieved something particularly noteworthy within the Borough
- enhanced the reputation of the Borough at a national level stage
- made a significant contribution to the conservation and protection of the natural environment of the Borough
- recognise the extraordinary dedication of an individual or couple, who have provided a loving and supportive family life to a child, sibling group or adult who do not live with their birth family
In the 'Service to the Community Award - Business category' the business must meet one of the following criteria:
- created a substantial number of new jobs
- nurtured and promoted the skills of local residents
- significantly invested in making the Borough a great place to live, work and conduct business
How do I nominate a person, group or organisation?
You can nominate a person, group or organisation by completing the online nomination form. You can also print and complete a paper nominations form (PDF) [226KB] which you can return by scanning it and emailing mayors.office@stockton.gov.uk, or by posting it to:
Mayor's Civic Awards, Civic Office, Municipal Buildings, Church Road, Stockton-on-Tees, TS18 1LD.
If you choose to complete the online nominations form, your application needs to be completed in one go. It is a good idea to think about the reasons why the person, group, organisation or business deserves a Civic Award and write them down, or type them into a Word document, so you can copy and paste them into the form when you come to complete it.
Please note the following when completing your application:
- you will need to provide the name and contact address for your nominee
- if your nominee is a finalist, we may contact you for further information
- nominations that are not fully completed or highlight more than one category will be disqualified
- a separate form must be completed for each nomination
- your application must be returned by 5pm on Friday 31 January 2025
- the Awards Panel select winners based on the information you provide so include as much relevant information as possible, as short support statements are unlikely to be successful
- the Awards Panel's decision is final
Stockton-on-Tees Borough Council is collating information for the sole purpose of evaluating the nominations for the Mayor's Civic Awards.
