Caravan sites and mobile homes
If you want to run a caravan site, you might need a licence.
You do not need a licence if:
- you are keeping a caravan on the same site as your home and no one is living in the caravan separate to your household
- you plan to keep a single caravan for no more than two consecutive nights for up to 28 days in any 12-month period on the site
- you plan to keep up to 3 caravans of a site larger than 5 acres for a maximum of 28 days in any 12-month period
- the site will be occupied by an organisation which is exempt such as the caravan club
- you plan to use the site for up to 5 caravans which are certified by an exempt organisation and what are being used by members of that organisation
- the site is occupied by the local authority
- you plan to use the site for a temporary or special purpose, such as for a caravan rally or temporary accommodation for agricultural and forestry works
Before you apply for a licence, you need to apply for planning permission that allows your land to be used as a caravan site.

What happens after you apply
We will check that the site owners or others appointed to manage the site are "fit and proper" people. As part of this, we will check whether you have any previous convictions.
We will also carry out a site inspection to ensure that your site is suitable.
