"It could change your life!": Could you give 'Dry January' a try next year?
Residents across the Borough are being encouraged to take on the 'Dry January' challenge next month.
The campaign, soon to be in its tenth year, sees thousands across the country give up alcohol for a month after the festive season.
And many report sleeping better, losing weight and saving money after taking part.
Plus evidence suggests that a month without alcohol can lower blood pressure and cholesterol levels, as well as reducing your risk of developing type two diabetes.
Councillor Steve Nelson, Stockton-on-Tees Borough Council's Cabinet Member for Health, Leisure and Culture, said: "It's very easy to over-indulge during the Christmas holidays and that is what makes January the ideal time to reset your relationship with alcohol, not just for the month but for the whole year.
"Of course we want everyone to carry on enjoying socialising, but Dry January can help you realise you don't need alcohol to have a good time.
"There are so many benefits which come from taking part, not least the amazing sense of achievement when you've completed the challenge.
"And of course there are the positive health impacts you'll get from cutting down on alcohol, such as reducing your risk of developing many severe illnesses, including some forms of cancer.
"So that's why I'm urging residents to take on the challenge - it could change your life for the better!"
