John Whitehead Park
There's plenty to do in the popular John Whitehead Park, just a stone's throw from Billingham Town Centre.
John Whitehead park includes a skate park, play area, muti-use games area, outdoor gym, tennis courts and a bowls club, making this a great place to get active. You can also re-fuel with refreshments from the café or enjoy a picnic.
Who was John Whitehead?
John Whitehead worked as the Clerk for Billingham Urban District Council during the mid-1900s. At the time, the town of Billingham was growing rapidly and he played an important part in developing the facilities needed by its residents. John Whitehead died in 1948 and when the new park was created in the 1950s it was named after him. It was opened formally on 6 July 1957.
News
On the weekend of 23 and 24 September 2023, John Whitehead Park and Billingham town centre will be the venue for the Festival of Thrift - the nationally recognised event championing sustainable living. The area will be transformed for the Festival of Thrift's unique and distinctive weekend of arts, culture and celebration.
