Stockton-on-Tees Borough Council is helping vulnerable residents stay warm this winter.

The Council's Warm Homes Healthy People scheme is targeted at people who are either over 65 years, are in receipt of disability benefits, have a long term illness made worse by the cold or a child under five years old with a long term illness made worse by the cold. It is also available to people living with Dementia.

The scheme includes emergency heating, advice and support about how to remain healthy and better cope with cold weather, energy saving and debt advice and welfare benefits advice. In some cases, when also in receipt of qualifying benefits, homeowners can seek help with boiler servicing and repairs.

Stockton-on-Tees Borough Council's Cabinet Member for Health, Leisure and Culture, Councillor Steve Nelson, said, said: "Cold temperatures can have a serious impact on your health and are linked to a number of health conditions including respiratory disease, strokes, falls and flu. Keeping warm and healthy during the cold weather can help keep illness away and prevent existing health conditions worsening.

"This year it's even easier to apply to the Warm Homes Healthy People scheme with a simple online form on our website. If you are struggling to keep your home warm get in touch and see if we can help."

For more information and to apply online visit the Warm Homes Healthy People web page or telephone 01642 528215.

This Warm Homes Healthy People scheme runs until 31 March 2023.

For emergency help with heating, contact Cleveland Fire Brigade on their 24-hour helpline on 01429 874063.
