Work is set to begin on the remaining improvements to Norton duck pond along with refurbishment of the public toilets as part of Council plans to continue to invest in and reshape its six town centres.

The programme of improvements to Norton duck pond includes works to the perimeter path, steps and railings as well as surface improvements including new seating and feature planters to the plaza corner.

This phase of works follows the installation of a new fountain, which was completed last year, following feedback from the public on the proposed design.

Access to the duck pond will be limited during the works.

The public toilets are located behind Norton High Street on Maybray King Walk and will undergo an internal and external refurbishment to improve the two single toilets and one accessible toilet in the existing block.

Contractor Wells CRS will undertake the refurbishment works and the public toilets will remain closed during this time.

Both the remodelling of the public toilets and the final improvements to the duck pond will begin on Monday 5 September, with work expecting to take up to eight weeks.

The improvements are part of the Council's Town Centres Investment Programme to transform its six town centres to encourage new uses and to continue to make them a place to live, visit and invest in.

Councillor Nigel Cooke, Cabinet Member for Regeneration and Housing at Stockton-on-Tees Borough Council, said: "The improvement of two key public areas in Norton  are part of the exciting changes that the town is undergoing.

"Improvements to the duck pond and more opportunities for events through the proposed improvements to the southern end of the High Street mean there's a need to ensure the growing number of visitors have access to good facilities.

"I am confident that the improved toilet facility and the enhancements to the duck pond will be welcome news and will deliver another positive benefit to Norton."
