Work on new toilet facilities set to begin in Yarm

Work is set to begin on relocating the public toilet in Yarm as part of Council plans to continue to invest in and reshape its six town centres.

The public toilet is being relocated from the historic Town Hall to a new, purpose-built facility in Yarm Library in advance of redevelopment works to the Town Hall beginning later this year. Works to construct the new unisex facility will begin on Monday 15 August for approximately eight weeks.

The relocation of the toilet is part of the Council's Town Centres Investment Programme to transform its six town centres to encourage new uses, to enrich visitor experiences and to continue to make them a place to live, visit and invest in.

The new facility will be fully accessible and will open seven days a week. This will allow the facility to have more flexible opening hours than the library's operational times.

Castle Construction have been appointed to complete the works. There will be a temporary loss of eight parking bays in front of the library to accommodate the site compound for the duration of the works.

Access to the library will be maintained throughout the construction works, which are due to be completed in early Autumn.

Councillor Nigel Cooke, Cabinet Member for Regeneration and Housing at Stockton-on-Tees Borough Council, said: "The remodelling of key public facilities in Yarm is much needed as part of the exciting changes that the town is undergoing.

"It's about ensuring the facility remains in the town for shoppers, visitors and those who work there. I am confident that this new site will deliver another positive benefit to the town".
