Recycle at your library: new scheme launches in Stockton-on-Tees
Crisp packets, bread bags and biscuit wrappers are among the items that can be easily recycled thanks to a new scheme launched in Stockton-on-Tees.
Stockton-on-Tees Borough Council is piloting the scheme for people to recycle soft plastics at libraries across the Borough.
These types of plastics cannot be recycled in kerbside collections as they are difficult to sort when mixed with other materials.
Councillor Mike Smith, the Council's Cabinet Member for Environment and Transport said: "We always try to encourage recycling and these new collection points make it even easier for residents to recycle common household plastic items.
"If you're near or visiting the library, why not take some plastic to drop off at the recycling point? You can take things like bread bags, cling film, chocolate and sweet wrappers, and multi-pack plastic wrapping but you just need to make sure the plastic is clean. It's very convenient and means that people can now recycle materials which can't be collected at the kerbside."
