Back with a bang! Fireworks 2021: Your need-to-know guide

Our hugely popular fireworks display is set to return on Sunday 7 November.

Stockton's spectacular event attracts many thousands of residents from across the Borough and visitors from further afield.

The free, family-friendly event features a packed programme of entertainment, music and, of course, dazzling fireworks to enjoy.

Here's the lowdown.

Is there a theme for this year's display?

The past 18 months have been an extremely testing time for many people but we've also seen a lot of heroes emerge from our communities to help others in need.

This year's theme is superheroes, featuring a medley of much-loved theme tunes mixed with some uplifting songs to send spirits soaring!

Where is it and what time does it start?

The event starts at 5pm with a BBC Tees Radio Roadshow on Stockton's Riverside hosted by Neil Green and Rachel Teate, with live performances from Brooke Burke, Taylor Mayd, Billy Hunt and Spilt Milk.

All eyes will then turn to the skies for the stunning fireworks display, starting at 6.30pm.

What else is there to be enjoyed?

There will be a small number of children's rides on Stockton High Street from 12noon to 7pm.

Food and refreshment stalls will be available on Stockton Riverside and on Bishop Street.

Do I need a ticket?

No, the display is completely free of charge.

A few words from the Cabinet Member...

Councillor Jim Beall, Stockton-on-Tees Borough Council's Cabinet Member for Health, Leisure and Culture, said: "Our annual fireworks spectacular is one of the cornerstones of our events programme and has to be one of the biggest and best free displays in the country.

"Obviously we couldn't hold the event last year but we have the opportunity now, with our superheroes theme, to reflect on the amazing efforts of both the Council's and wide range of other service's frontline workers, including NHS staff and community heroes.

"On that theme, attending a professionally organised display like this and not holding your own is a much safer option and best way to reduce the strain on our emergency services.

"I'd encourage everyone to follow our COVID safety guidance and check the parking and public transport information on our website" 

Why isn't this being held on Bonfire Night (Friday 5 November)?

We took the decision to hold it on a Sunday several years ago, following feedback from both residents and businesses.

Holding the display on a Sunday allows the event to be staged at an earlier time, which makes it easier for families to attend.

It also reduces any negative impact on Stockton's shops, residents and public transport, which would be more affected if the event was held on a weekday or a Saturday.
