School Support
School Support work in partnership with schools and other education establishments to improve children and young people's emotional resilience, reduce suspension, prevent exclusion and provide group work.
The team have the following functions:
1. School Support Advisers act as the Single Point of Contact (SPOC) for school staff, offering advice and guidance on emerging issues or concerns. A School Support Adviser will be in regular contact with leads in school to discuss the children on the Vulnerable Child Database (VCD), offer case supervision and facilitate the team around the family meetings. School Support Advisers also run regular solution circles within every cluster area to discuss low level issues and challenges.
Cluster | School Support Adviser | Contact Number |
---|---|---|
Billingham | Emma Hayes | 07585 966265 |
North Stockton and Norton | Katy Rafferty | 07384 797822 |
Central Stockton | Tanya Adams | 07442 685528 |
Thornaby | Michelle Latham | 07823 523299 |
Ingleby Barwick | Richard Ferry | 07384 232024 |
Yarm and Eaglescliffe | Richard Ferry | 07384 232024 |
2. School Support Workers deliver low level direct work in settings such as school and other venues to meet the needs of that individual either one to one or in group work, using restorative interventions to build self-esteem and self-confidence. School Support Workers also work with individuals around poor attendance, disruptive behaviours and harmful peer relationships.
We also have a targeted enhanced transition programme to support vulnerable children moving from Year 6 Primary to Year 7 Secondary. This programme is designed to build confidence, manage emotions, deal with change and make new friends. We work in partnership with schools, 0-19 health service, Alliance, Kooth and Mind.
The benefit of the programme is to increase knowledge around good and bad choices, increase attendance and punctuality, reduce anxieties, improve positive self-image and promote inclusiveness and relationship building.
