Littleboy Park

A delightful small park in Thornaby, complete with a play area, tennis courts and attractive tree avenues.

Address: Littleboy Park, Acklam Road, Thornaby, Stockton-on-Tees, TS17 7EH

The park is named in memory of Wilfrid Evelyn Littleboy, a lieutenant in the Royal Warwickshire Regiment who was killed during the First World War. Wilfred was the youngest son of Charles William Littleboy, a shipbuilder in Thornaby, and his wife Agnes Eveline. Charles also became mayor of Thornaby-on-Tees and later he donated land for the creation of this park, which was opened in 1930.

Lombardy poplar trees dominate the skyline at Littleboy Park and can easily be recognised by their tall thin shape. They are more typically found in France from where they are named, although they are a close relative of the native black poplar that can be found throughout the Borough.

News

The park has seen many changes in the past couple of years, including a new footpath, areas of tree planting and a refurbished children's play area. A new cycleway also runs through the park, and most recently a major project has been completed to resurface the park's tennis courts and install new fencing.

These projects have been made possible through the generous support of Impetus Environmental Trust, the Lawn Tennis Association, Thornaby Town Council and Forestry Commission funding.

Accessibility

Surfaced paths provide good access routes through the park. There are no toilets.
