Lisa Evans
Councillor Lisa Evans represents Norton North ward, elected in May 2019.
Councillor Evans was first elected in May 2015 to represent Bishopsgarth & Elm Tree Ward.
After finishing secondary school at Our Lady and St Bede, I worked in retail for many years and became involved in the Trade Union movement whilst working at Tesco on Durham Road. Whilst there, I returned to education to gain teaching qualifications at Stockton Riverside College and the University of Sunderland.
Working at Sunderland College as a lecturer for seven years, allowed me to value the opportunities that education gives and I am passionate that every child and young person regardless of background, has the best access to education available to them. I was also a Governor at Our Lady and St Bede School for four years, where I focused on raising standards and ensuring parents and young people's views and issues were listened to.
After being made redundant, I have returned to working for a Trade Union, negotiating and representing members who work in our schools and NHS - a job that I am very proud to do. I already know many people in the local community and look forward to working for many more I am committed to working tirelessly and listening to local residents and young people to ensure they have a say and that their voice is heard to make a real difference and improvement to their community.
